Frequently asked questions

The questions that come up most.

Below are the answers to what people ask me most — before a program, during, and after. Question not listed? Ask it in a 20-minute intro call, or email me directly.

Approach and method

What is the Capacity Method?

My way of working. Not a loose list of tips, but a fixed way of seeing the bigger picture: sleep, recovery, nutrition, stress, mind, training and your daily rhythm, as one whole. Based on kPNI, translated practically to busy lives. The full approach is on the Approach page.

What is kPNI?

Clinical psycho-neuro-immunology. A field that studies how stress, nutrition, sleep, movement and hormones interact through your nervous system and immune system. For athletes it means: your recovery is not separate from your work stress, your nutrition is not separate from your sleep — everything is connected. My work is making that connection visible for you, and steering it deliberately.

What sets you apart from other coaches?

Three things. One: I look at the whole system, not at loose pieces. Many coaches do either nutrition or training or stress. I work from the connections. Two: I work specifically with athletes who have a full life, so every plan has to fit a real work week. Three: I give you insight so you start to understand it yourself — you learn to read your own system, and eventually you won't need me anymore.

Do you provide training schedules?

Not as a standalone product. If you have an external sports coach, I align with them so we don't work past each other. If you don't have one, we help you find a good one, or we integrate training in coherence with the rest of the plan — limited to endurance disciplines I'm comfortable with.

Do you work with other experts?

Yes. For specific questions (sports physician, physiotherapist, nutritionist, hormone expert) I work with a trusted network. If something comes up that falls outside my work, I refer you. No extra bills through me — just a direct referral.

Who it's for

Who is Viva Mentis for?

Dedicated athletes between roughly 28 and 50 with a demanding job. People who run, play football, do Hyrox, prepare for a triathlon — next to a full-time life. You have a concrete athletic goal or a stubborn recovery pattern you want to move forward.

I'm not an elite athlete. Is this for me?

Yes. By far most people I work with are dedicated recreational or ambitious amateur athletes, not pros. The work is the same — only the context differs.

I'm over 50. Can I still join?

Absolutely. The principles work at any age. Above 50, different accents come into play: hormonal changes, recovery time, maintaining strength. I adjust the plan accordingly.

Does this also work for women specifically?

Yes, with attention to what differs. Cycle, perimenopause, hormonal dynamics after stopping the pill — these are all factors taken into account in the intake and the plan. For specific questions I work with additional experts.

When am I not a good match?

If you expect me to coach you mentally in the psychological sense (anxiety, trauma work): that's not my work. If you have acute medical complaints: doctor first. If you don't want to change anything about your lifestyle and are only looking for a training schedule. If you expect 24/7 availability.

Do you coach in English?

Yes. Calls, coaching and written plans are available in English. The online course and some materials are currently in Dutch — mention it in the intro call and we'll look at what works for you.

Options and pricing

What is the difference between Sprint, Blueprint and Program?

Performance Sprint (€399): one session of 60 to 90 minutes for one concrete question. Directly applicable advice.

Performance Blueprint (€999): a complete personal plan after intake and analysis, with two in-depth sessions. For anyone who wants to see the whole picture before moving on.

Performance Program (€2,499+): 12 to 16 weeks of intensive coaching with weekly contact. For anyone who knows what needs to happen and wants help executing.

The full overview is on the coaching page.

Which option fits me?

Depends on where you are and what you want. Not sure? Book an intro call. Twenty minutes, free. I'll give you honest advice on which option fits — or whether something else fits better.

Can I move between options?

Yes. A Blueprint can be credited for 50% toward the Program, provided you start within 8 weeks after the Blueprint. A Sprint gives no credit — it stands on its own.

Do I get an invoice for my business?

Yes. I'm self-employed, VAT-registered, and send a proper invoice you can submit as a business expense or under your employer's vitality budget.

How a program works

What does a typical week in the Performance Program look like?

A weekly contact moment, alternating between a 30 to 45 minute video call and a written or voice update. A deeper monthly review of 60 to 90 minutes. In between, short messages via a fixed channel, with a reply within 24 hours on working days. No 24/7 availability. This is structured coaching, not a hotline.

Do I get homework?

Not "homework" in the school sense. But in every session we agree on 1 to 3 concrete things you implement in the week after. Sometimes changing an evening routine, sometimes a nutrition pattern around training, sometimes tracking data systematically. Practical, and made to fit your actual week.

What if my motivation drops?

That's normal and part of the work. If you notice yourself sliding back, that's not failure. It's a signal we work with. It happens most often in weeks 5 to 7, when the initial energy fades and the real work begins. That's exactly what I'm there for.

What if I get injured during the program?

Then the plan adapts. An injury is a signal we take seriously, not a reason to stop the program. Often that's exactly when we make the most progress on the layer underneath: sleep, nutrition, stress.

Can I pause the program for a holiday or busy period?

Yes, in consultation. Short pauses (1 to 2 weeks) we solve informally. Longer pauses require rescheduling and possibly an extension of the program.

Practical

Do you work online or in person?

Almost everything online via Google Meet or Zoom, in English or Dutch. That works well for the nature of the work and gives you flexibility. Based in Barneveld, the Netherlands. In-person can be discussed for specific wishes.

What do I need to participate?

A laptop or phone with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection and a quiet spot. Nothing else. No mandatory apps or devices. It does help if you use a sports watch or sleep tracker — then we can work with that data.

How do we communicate between sessions?

For weekly asynchronous contact I use WhatsApp Business or email, your preference. Reply within 24 hours on working days. No weekend contact unless there is a race week or an acute situation.

What hours are you available for sessions?

Working days 8:00 to 10:00 and 19:00 to 20:30 (CET) for sessions. Outside those hours I respond to questions, but don't schedule sessions. Weekends I'm off. That's better for you too — it helps you actually switch off.

Are there waiting lists?

Sometimes, for the Performance Program. I work with a maximum of 8 to 10 active programs at the same time to guarantee quality. Being on the waiting list costs nothing, and you get priority as soon as a spot opens up.

Privacy and medical

Do you replace a doctor or physiotherapist?

No. I don't give medical advice and don't make diagnoses. For medical complaints I refer you to your GP or a specialist. My work is lifestyle and performance focused, with respect for what belongs in the medical domain.

What do you do with my blood work or medical data?

Blood work and other health data I use only for your plan, and store encrypted. Deletion on request is always possible. Discussing blood work is signal work in support of lifestyle choices — not medical diagnostics.

Is my information confidential?

Completely. Everything you share — health data, sports data, personal context — is stored carefully and encrypted, and never shared without your explicit consent. Full explanation in the privacy statement (in Dutch).

What if I use medication?

No problem in principle. It is important that I know which medication, because some (cortisol medication, beta blockers, contraception) affect training and recovery patterns. When in doubt, always consult your treating doctor before implementing lifestyle changes.

Are conversations recorded?

By default, no. On request, yes — useful for listening back — with your explicit consent. Recordings are kept for you only and deleted after 6 months, unless agreed otherwise.

Payment and cancellation

How do I pay?

For Sprint and Blueprint via iDEAL or credit card at purchase. For the Program in 1, 3 or 4 installments via bank transfer, agreed in the intro call.

Do I get my money back if I'm not satisfied?

Sprint: free cancellation up to 48 hours before the appointment. After that, 50% is charged.
Blueprint: free until the start. After the plan phase begins, no refund.
Program: satisfaction guarantee for the first 4 weeks. You only pay for the weeks worked plus €350 for onboarding. After that, no refund.

Full terms in the terms and conditions (in Dutch).

Does my health insurance cover this?

By default, no. Some supplementary Dutch packages cover coaching or prevention programs — check your policy. Some employers have a vitality budget that can partly fund a program.

Can I deduct this as a business owner?

Often yes, as business or professional expenses. Ask your accountant or tax advisor. I'm not a tax specialist and don't advise on this.
